Profile - Craig Crofton

Anglo - American Craig is a protege of Marcus Printup (Blue Note Records) and has played with Jazz greats like John Fattis, Pee Wee Ellis ,Wynton Marsalis and members of the Lincoln Center Band.

Craig's own band CCQ has opened the Jazz World stage at the Glastonbury Festival and appeared on the Main stage at Ashton Court Festival and Bristol Music Festivals. They have also been showcased with top international acts including Roni Size, Jazz Jamaica and The James Taylor Quartet.

Craig plays locally with many other projects including The Jazz Reggae Sessions, Los Mercenarios and Dub From Atlantis.

Craig was featured on B.B.C. Radio 4 'Loose ends' in 1998.

Craig has played at Ronnie Scott's. He is also known as a Session Sax player playing sessions from Bristol to New York with top international acts including Nittin Sawney and, more recently, Kasabian.

Craig brings to the Blowout Sax School an authenticity of an American jazzman and has the necessary characteristics of many of the U.S Sax jazz pioneers before him.

Craig has 15 years experience teaching and playing professionally. He caters to the specific individual whether it be Jazz, blues to classical and beyond.

Craig specialises in Jazz improvisation, theory and performance. He has taken students through grades one to eight in Trinity, Guildhall and ABRSM examinations and all at Merit or above!
Having taught at university level (Bath Spa University, Exeter University etc) Craig understands the university audition process, knowing what major institutions expect from those students looking to further their musical education at the highest level.
Most recently, Craig successfully coached student Steven Mathers through the audition process and gained him a coveted place at Trinity Guildhall in London.

Craig is one of four featured artists tutoring at the Play Jazz Weekends at the Wiltshire Music Centre since 2009 running master-classes and directing small groups for performance.
